I live on a major US highway in N. Jackson County NC in a fast growing area that prompted studies by the county to attempt to control the form of that growth but no mention was given to the problem of lack of broadband. Currently there is no DSL no Cable and no one seems to care. I have had to go to satellite and the performance is awful and costly.
